The assigned readings, activities, assessments, and clinical experiences in this course have been
instrumental in helping me meet Program Outcome 5, which emphasizes advocating for
positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced
nursing practice.
First, the comprehensive readings on evidence-based practice and patient-centered care
provided a solid theoretical foundation. For example, the article on the integration of trauma-
informed care in mental health settings deepened my understanding of how to approach
patients with a history of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). This knowledge was directly
applicable during my clinical rotations, where I was able to employ trauma-informed care
principles to create a safe and supportive environment for patients with complex trauma
histories. By doing so, I could advocate more effectively for their mental health needs and
facilitate their engagement in the therapeutic process.
Second, the interactive activities and assessments, such as case studies and simulation
exercises, enhanced my clinical decision-making skills and ability to collaborate with
multidisciplinary teams. In one simulation, I worked with a team of healthcare professionals to
develop a care plan for a patient with severe depression and comorbid substance use disorder.
This experience underscored the importance of collaborative practice and communication
